Portishead Youth Centre

 The club was founded in June 1961 at a building on the High Street, which was formerly used as the Library.

The youth club soon out-grew this building and a new purpose built centre was opened in Harbour Road

Portishead Youth Centre was officially opened on Saturday 21st May 1966 at a cost of £18,000 and within a year the centre was extended to include an all weather play area and Arts Room.

 The centre is leased by North Somerset Council to a voluntary committee who manage the Centre on behalf of the Town.

 The Aims & objectives of the Portishead Youth Club are:-

The social education of young people, between the ages of 11 and 25 years (primarily those between the age's of 13 to 19), during their leisure time, so that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and as members of society to play a useful part in the affairs of the community.

 

The youth club aims to offer young people the opportunity to participate in a challenging, educational and stimulating programme, encouraging personal development and self confidence.  The Centre offers a wide range of activities which are relevant to the needs of young people today. These include Social and sporting opportunities, inter-club visits trips and outings, educational workshops and arts & crafts. The club houses a  recording Studio           

The club is affiliated to Youth Clubs U. K. and Young Bristol . The Centre is staffed by a team of fully trained personnel whose job is to supervise, tutor and assist young people in their care.
